Support Public Education

I recognize the limited jurisdiction of the Board of Commissioners over public education policy.  Critical decisions affecting our childrens’ education rest with the School Board. At the same time I recognize that one of the wealthiest counties in the state should have a school system that reflects that status. That’s why I’m committed to scrutinizing budget allocations, and providing the funding necessary to provide a first class education for all our K through 12 students.  We must also ensure our schools remain focused on providing a quality education and avoid the distraction of unrelated issues and debates. 

 

Once elected, I will: 

• Advocate for state lawmakers to appropriately fund our public schools.

• Proactively plan for capital improvements that meet the needs of our growing county.

• Promote a strong working relationship between the New Hanover County School Board and Board of Commissioners.
